10 Week Hatch Day Update: Mae

The time has flown and our OG Mae is 10 weeks old! No longer our speckled chickie she’s now covered with silky soft gold flecked feathers that radiate in the sunshine.

Our stubborn Mae is often the last one who gets close enough to be pulled from the coop for yard time and the the last one to get shuffled back in while squawking loudly. She’s a curious bird being one of the first to investigate who is around the coop and if they've brought one of her favorite treats- anything green and leafy!

Momma Mae co-leads the parade to the roosting area at dusk, calling and looking out for to her sisters that would rather stay out a little longer. Although the pecking order has not yet been determined or observed by us Chickie Parents, Mae will be in the top half with her habits of keeping the others in check. 

Recently Mae has taken a liking to the new dust bath (a tire filled with dry peat moss) and along with Gerty doesn't leave the bath in high heat. As a milestone for ten weeks the Chickie Parents decided to take weights of each of the girls. Miss Mae weighs in at 1 pound 14 ounces and is still growing like a champ! Let the count down begin until she starts paying room and board with green, blue, or pink fresh eggs. (Chickie Momma is hoping for blue!)
