Diaries of a House Chicken Part 4: Social Calendar & Such

With Poppy being isolated for the better part of the week, each day came with new lessons and trials. Here’s a snap shot of what our week looked like:

  • Lunch Dates with Chickie Daddy: Lots of water shots and a disdain for parrot food and discussing the news of the day.

  • Lunch Date with Chickie Momma: Poppy took a lap around the house (looking for things to peck up) and ended up dangerously close to her brothers’ favorite bird watching chair. To spite them she pooped.

  • A new camera feed to keep an eye on our girl which at one point the camera view was upside-down and a Poppy nowhere to be seen. Upon arrival home she was found happily resting on the bed.

  • A chatty Poppy relaying all of the news to us when we get home. (Thanks to leaving the radio on for her all day.)

  • Abbreviated free ranging time with her sisters under the watchful eye late in the week.

  • A smorgasbord of parrot food, yogurt, fennel seeds, & regular feed in tiny tastes paired with a shot glass of water or a reused tonic water bottle.

  • Cuddle & silly photo time.

It’s been a week, that’s for sure.

Friday night with symptoms under control and her being back on layer feed, we tucked her into the coop. Well, not really. After being away from her coop for a week, her sisters were not thrilled about seeing her. Their parade up to the roosting bar was disorderly and a tad violent, but we got there. With dusk falling she was able to nestle up with the flock and settle in for the night.
