Chicken People

You always swear you won't change. Those blogs, magazines, and Pinterest posts on What to Feed Your Chicken, Training Your Chickens, Providing Entertainment in the Coop are clearly for those people that make backyard chickens a 4H project or an additional source of income at markets. But there's no harm in saving them because you want healthy, happy hens...right?  

Six silly birds can't possible control you life, or at least that'd what you think until a weather change has you thinking are the girls going to be okay in t-storm?  Then you catch yourself flipping through a poultry magazine as you're checking out of TSC with an armful of chicken treats. When your neighbor comes over to say hi you realize you're talking about chicken run plans. Instead of searching DSW's latest summer shoe inventory, you're once again looking at meal worm options, subscription options, and chicken dishtowels.

Well, it's time for Chickie Momma to accept the facts all those around me probably realized months ago...I belong to the Chicken People. I'm going to play the BIO NERD card paired with the fact that I'm an animal person and well, these "Anchor Chickens" as Chickie Daddy often calls them, have added a peaceful reprive to my life. The IG feed is full of beautiful baskets of fresh eggs, fluffy chicken butts, and custom coops. My Google search history is filled with "can chickens eat..." and images for various chicken breed. I have several books on my nightstand about raising chickens and consult the sciency sections often.

Chickie Daddy on the other hand is still in denial that he too belongs with the Chicken People but considering he's managing their social media optics, I think he will realize it before too long when the fact his chickens have an email address, blog, and IG account.
